For several years, I had heard of environmentally-friendly dry cleaners that do not use PERCs, which is a central nervous system depressant and a hazardous air pollutant according to U.S. federal standards. In addition, my resident dry cleaner had somehow managed to tear all of the linings in my pants and jackets (either through carelessness or harsh processing).
So I was ecstatic when a GreenEarth dry cleaning station opened just down the street. GreenEarth cleaners use a silicone-based solvent (“Like sand,” told me the owner of the station). My clothes no longer have a chemical smell to them and don’t come back torn inside. They also feel softer and don’t irritate my skin. In addition, the station is no more expensive than my old dry cleaner.
